If you need small claims forms Kenya courts will accept, you shouldn’t have to hunt through scanned pages to find them. We’ve put the Statement of Claim (SCC 1) and the Response to Statement of Claim (SCC 2) into one six-page file, in Word and PDF, free to download.

Under the Small Claims Court Act, 2016, a claim starts with a statement of claim in the prescribed form (section 23). The file below follows that form, laid out so you can type into it or print it. This page is general information as at October 2026.

Download the small claims forms Kenya claimants use

One file, six pages. Choose Word to fill in on screen, or PDF to print and write by hand.

Small Claims Court Form SCC 2, Response to Statement of Claim, first page
SCC 2: Response to Statement of Claim, first page

Pages 1 to 3 are SCC 1. Pages 4 to 6 are SCC 2. If the court asks you to use its own current form, use that.

What is in the small claims forms file

SCC 1, Statement of Claim (pages 1 to 3). This is the form the person claiming money completes. It has five parts: your details, the other party’s details, the nature of the claim, a short account of what happened, and the relief you want. It ends with a declaration that the information is true.

SCC 2, Response to Statement of Claim (pages 4 to 6). This is for the person who has been claimed against. It starts on a new page, so you can print only the pages you need. It lets a respondent answer the claim and, where it applies, bring a counterclaim.

These small claims forms Kenya claimants and respondents use are two forms in one file. You only complete the form that applies to you. A claimant uses SCC 1. A respondent uses SCC 2.

How to use the forms

  1. Choose your format.

Word is easiest if you want to type and correct as you go. PDF suits printing and writing by hand in clear block letters.

  2. Fill in the parts that apply.

Leave the boxes marked for the court’s own use blank, such as the acknowledgement of service and the official use section.

  3. Gather your documents.

Attach copies of the contract, invoices, delivery notes, messages and receipts that support the claim.

  4. Sign, date and file.

Take the signed form and your documents to the registry, or ask about electronic lodging, which the Act allows (section 23(7)).

Before you file

Having the right small claims forms Kenya registries recognise is only half the job. Check the claim is one the court can hear. It must be for money or damages within the KSh 1 million limit in section 12(3), and some disputes are excluded, such as land, employment and defamation (section 13(5)). If a judgment is later made and not paid, our article on judgment debtor arrest in Kenya explains what enforcement looks like.

Court forms and practice can change. If the registry gives you a newer version, use that one.
